Abstract
Classical particle and energy confinement times are calculated for lar ge-aspect ratio pinch equilibria with shaped cross-sections. The resis tivity profile is taken to be consistent with the assumption of statio nary electromagnetic fields. It is shown, for a constant current densi ty profile, that confinement is always made worse by a non-circular cr oss-section
