R. Mcfadzean et al., A DIAGNOSTIC QUARTET IN LEPTOMENINGEAL INFILTRATION OF THE OPTIC-NERVE SHEATH, Journal of neuro-ophthalmology, 14(3), 1994, pp. 175-182
A rare case of optic leptomeningeal carcinomatosis secondary to a rect
al adenocarcinoma is recorded. The presentation of rectal disease with
blindness is unique. A diagnostic quartet of symptoms and signs of le
ptomeningeal infiltration of the optic nerve sheath is proposed and it
s value emphasized by the inability of further investigation to confir
m the clinical diagnosis. The investigation and treatment of leptomeni
ngeal carcinomatosis is reviewed.
