THE HOROMILL(R) - A NEW FINISH GRINDING MILL

FCB, the French manufacturer and supplier of complete cement grinding plants, has recently developed a new mill. This mill has been named th e Horomill(R) (Horizontal Roller Mill) by the manufacturer and is suit able for processing and grinding solid mineral substances, especially cement clinker and cement raw materials. The new mill can be used in a grinding plant system both for finish grinding and for pregrinding. T he energy saving associated with the use of the mill is similar to tha t with roll presses; it amounts to approximately 30 to 50% when compar ed with a ball mill, but with less material recirculation and lower ap plied pressures. After an investigative phase in a pilot plant with a throughput of 1.0 t/h the first industrial plant with a throughput of 25 t/h was built in cooperation with the cement manufacturer Fratelli Buzzi in Trino, Italy. Intensive investigations were carried out on th is industrial-scale mill for grinding cement; the investigations cover ed not only the performance characteristics but also the quality of th e ground product, i.e. the compressive strengths achieved as well as t he workabilities of the ground cements.
