The basic characteristics of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) track me
mbranes obtained from films 10 and 20 mum thick were examined. Membran
es with pore diameters of 0.2, 0.4, and 1 mum were examined. Using a n
umber of procedures, the following structural parameters of track memb
ranes were determined: density and mean size of pores, bubble point, a
nd pore-size distribution. The values of tensile strength and specific
flow rates of water and gas were measured for both types of membranes
. Membrane behavior during tap water filtration was studied. The advan
tages of track membranes based on thicker films are discussed.
