Ng. Medvedkova et al., RHEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES AND HYDROPHILICITY OF TIO2 AND ZRO2 SOLS, Colloid journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 56(6), 1994, pp. 725-728
A comparative estimation of the rheological behavior of hydrosols of s
ome inorganic oxides (ZrO2 and TiO2, on one hand, and SiO2, on the oth
er) and its relationship to the hydrophilicity and some other colloida
l properties of hydrosols of these oxides was made. The relationship o
f the rheological behavior (in particular, the viscometric constant K'
in the Huggins equation) to the hydrophilicity and aggregation stabil
ity of the studied hydrosols was determined. The similarities and diff
erences in the viscous properties of these sols and in polyelectrolyte
solutions were discovered. The presence of an extensive gel layer at
the surface of the ZrO2 and TiO2 particles was assumed in order to acc
ount for the results obtained.
