The samples of nominal compositions (Y1-zAuz)Ba2Cu3O7-delta, Y(Ba0.96A
u0.04)(2)Cu3O7-delta, YBa2(Cu0.97Au0.03)(3)O-7-delta, YBa2Cu3Au0.097O7
-delta and YBa2Cu3O7-delta were synthesized and comparatively studied
by means of electrical resistance, AC and DC magnetometric and Au-197
Mossbauer effect methods. The (Y1-zAuz)Ba2Cu3O7-delta and, particularl
y, (Y0.95Au0.05)Ba2Cu3O7-delta sample showed better homogeneity and sh
arper transition to the superconducting state than its YBa2 (Cu0.97Au0
.03)(3)O-7-delta counterpart. It is concluded that Au substitutes for
Cu(1) chain position while excess Cu atoms enter other, probably Y, la
ttice positions.
