P. Shang et al., MONOCLINIC PHASE-TRANSFORMATION AND RELATED (100)TWINNING IN BI2SR2CACU2OY SINGLE-CRYSTALS, Physica. C, Superconductivity, 235, 1994, pp. 533-534
An orthorhombic to monoclinic phase transformation with associated (10
0) twinning has been observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM
) in Bi2Sr2CaCu2Oy single crystals after vacuum heating to between 350
degrees C and 400 degrees C. A model describing the monoclime structu
re and the twin boundary geometrical configuration is presented. The o
rthorhombic to monoclinic phase transformation and related (100) twinn
ing are all reversible and depend strongly on the oxygen content. An e
volution of a tweed-like image to (100) twinning is observed in Bi2Sr2
CaCu2Oy crystals as temperature and time increase. We propose that the
monoclinic phase transformation results hom the ordering of oxygen va
cancies in the CuO2 planes.
