Abstract
Undersea cable systems are becoming more complex as they evolve from i solated systems to global networks. This evolution has created new cha llenges for network planners, cable installers, and those responsible for cable maintenance. This paper describes the philosophies and ensui ng strategies for these activities. Specifically, the AT&T-Submarine S ystems, Inc. (AT&T-SSI) maintenance, repair, management, planning, ope ration, and administration of cable systems are discussed.
