A series of linear weak polyelectrolytes containing beta-cyclodextrin
pendant groups was synthesized by chemical modification of poly(1-viny
limidazole). Studies on their solution behaviour as a functon of pH an
d the nature and ionic strength of added salts showed original feature
s which are explained in terms of competitive residue-residue and resi
due-solvent interactions and anion binding to cyclodextrin moieties.
