Abstract
The use of surfactants to enhance spectrophotometric procedures for th e determination of organic species is critically reviewed. Special emp hasis is placed on the effects of surfactants on chromogenic derivatiz ation reactions, The following topics are addressed: modification of a cid-base and solubility equilibria, spectral changes, modification of reaction rates, and applications in equilibrium-and kinetic-based anal ytical procedures, Applications to flow injection procedures are also briefly reviewed.
