F. Wirsching et al., GYPSUM FROM FLUE-GAS DESULFURIZATION PLAN TS - DEFINITIONS AND LEGISLATION IN THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES, IN THE OECD AND IN GERMANY, ZKG international. Edition B, 47(12), 1994, pp. 683-688
The production of FGD (Flue Gas Desulphurisation) gypsum in a power st
ation is explained in detail in this paper. It shows that FGD gypsum i
s produced as a product with a specification and quality standards. Th
e operations which lead to the recovery of the FGD gypsum are carried
out within the FGD plant itself. Both technologically and scientifical
ly, FGD gypsum is shown to be a product. Reflecting its status as a pr
oduct, FGD gypsum is not included in the European Waste Catalogue, the
OECD lists or the German Waste Catalogue. Finally, some comments are
made on the definitions and translations of keywords in this field fro
m English into French and German. It is established that such definiti
ons and translations will have to be brought clearly into line with on
e another.
