The oxide superconductors HgBa2CaCu2O6+delta and HgBa2Ca2Cu3O8+delta w
ere prepared from metal oxides or Ba2CaCu2Ox and Ba2Ca2Cu3Oy precursor
s and HgO. With strong precautions taken to avoid moisture and carbon
dioxide absorption, both methods are suitable for the preparation of H
g-based oxide superconductors. Regarding better grain contacts the adv
antage is on the side of the precursors prepared from metal nitrates.
