Abstract
The sum rule derived for linear dichroism in X-ray absorption is appli ed to La2-xSrxCuO4 to obtain quantitative, model-independent informati on about the out-of-plane character of 3d-holes. The interest of measu ring both the L(3) and L(2) edges to perform similar XAS sum-rule anal ysis in higher-T-c cuprates is discussed.
