We report transmission measurements of YBa2Cu3O7 thin films at energie
s (4 to 85 cm(-1)) far below the gap and temperatures between 20 and 2
50 K. From the frequency dependence, we deduce an electromagnetic pene
tration depth at 25 K of 1850 Angstrom. We observe a surprisingly larg
e transition width Delta T-c (10% - 90%) of more than 10 K at all ener
gies, compared to 0.6 K in DC measurements. We examine this feature in
the framework of a strong coupling phenomenology.
