Abstract
We have measured the effect of elastic stress sigma on the resistivity rho of BiSCCO whiskers in the a- and c-directions, with the stress al ong the a-axis. We find, in units of GPa(-1), dln(rho(a))/d sigma(11) = (0.064 +/- 0.020) and dln(rho(c))/d sigma(11) = (0.28 +/- 0.05). Com bining these results with those of Forro et al. [dln(rho(a))/dP = - 0. 075 GPa(-1) and dln(rho(c))/dP = - 0.4] and assuming (a) BiSCCO to be tetragonal and (b) d rho(33)/d sigma(11) = d rho(11)/d sigma(33), we estimate the tenser d rho(i)/d sigma(j) = [A(ij)]. Estimating the elas tic constants, we also find B-ij = d rho(i)/d epsilon(j).
