Ng. Bhilare et Vm. Shinde, EXTRACTION STUDIES OF THORIUM(IV) WITH TRIPHENYLPHOSPHINE OXIDE, Journal of radioanalytical and nuclear chemistry, 185(2), 1994, pp. 243-250
A simple method is described for the solvent extraction of thorium. Th
orium is extracted quantitatively from 5 . 10(-3)M sodium salicylate s
olution at pH 2.5-3.25 using 2.16 . 10(-2)M triphenylphosphine oxide a
s an extractant dissolved in toluene. The extracted metal ion is strip
ped with hydrochloric acid (0.1M) and determined spectrophotometricall
y with Thoron-1 at 540 nm. The method permits separation of thorium fr
om lanthanum, cerium, neodymium, samarium and uranium from binary mixt
ures and is applicable to the analysis of monazite sand. The method is
precise, accurate and selective.
