Abstract
We discuss projected wavefunctions for the t - J model with Jastrow fa ctors containing both long-range charge-charge and spin-spin correlato rs, capable of describing either a Luttinger liquid or an antiferromag net. For special parameters an exact eigenstate of the 1D t - J model is obtained in the limit J --> 0.
