The energy gap Delta of the superconducting compound Rb3C60 is determi
ned by electron tunneling spectroscopy in high vacuum using a low temp
erature scanning tunneling microscope. A single crystalline sample sho
ws a significantly larger gap value(Delta=7.1 meV) than a polycrystall
ine sample (Delta approximate to 2-4 meV). This behavior is attributed
to larger local variation of stoichiometry in the polycrystalline sam
ple.
