Superconducting ribbons have been obtained by melt-spinning YNi2B2C of
nominal stoichiometry. SQUID data show diamagnetic response with onse
t temperatures 14.5 K and 14 K for the ingot and ribbons respectively.
Hysteresis loop measurements display significantly weaker field depen
dence of the critical current in the ribbon compared with that in the
ingot. XRD analyses of ingots and ribbons suggest that in the ribbons
the stoichiometric superconductors are embedded in a glassy matrix.
