Abstract
The stoichiometry of molecular complexation of anthracene-2-sulfonate
(AS) with hexakis-, heptakis- and octakis- (6-amino-2,3-di-O-methyl-6-
deoxy) cyclodextrins (alpha-, beta- and gamma- PACDs) has been investi
gated by UV, fluorescence, and circular dichroism spectrophotometry; i
n neutral and alkaline media only beta-PACD gives the 2:2 inclusion co
mplex, while in sufficiently acidic media all PACDs form the inclusion
complexes by benefitting greatly from electrostatic interactions. The
relative rates for the PACD-promoted photodimerization are closely re
lated to the complexation modes.
