REMOTE ABSOLUTE PHASE MEASUREMENT IN BURIED CABLE SYSTEMS

The paper presents a method for determining in underground distributio n cable systems both phase sequence and absolute phase with respect to a standard which is broadcast over the power company's cellular-telep hone network. The method solves the problem of access to the cable cen ter conductor by using a tool developed by the authors for non-destruc tive cable status testing. The paper presents some applications in dis tribution system maintenance and expansion. Limits to the accuracy of absolute phase measurement are discussed.
