Abstract
This paper describes a study conducted by the Andhra Pradesh State Ele ctricity Board (APSEB), India, and ECC, Inc., USA for the design of a distribution automation system (DAS). Distribution automation function s applicable to an Indian utility mere identified. Communications tech nologies that are capable of meeting DAS requirements were evaluated, and a communications system suitable for India was defined. A benefit/ cost analysis was performed; first for a basic DAS and then for additi onal distribution automation functions.
