The species described as Lipomyces anomalus Babjeva and Gorin shows si
gnificant genetic and phenotypic divergence from the type species Lipo
myces starkeyi Lodder and Kreger-van Rij in terms of rRNA base sequenc
e substitution and ascosporal and septal ultrastructure. The species i
s consequently reclassified in the new, unispecific genus Babjevia, as
Babjevia anomala.
