The initial value problem for the Harry Dym equation on the complex pl
ane is linearised by the partial derivative-method. A wide class of ex
act implicit solutions is constructed by the partial derivative-dressi
ng method. It is shown that the peculiarity of the HDc equation is con
nected with the presence of an essential singularity for the correspon
ding eigenfunction. The method to overcome this singularity is propose
d. However, the implicitness of the exact solutions arises as a penalt
y.
