The influence of graphite type, time of mechanical alloying, and heat
treatment parameters on microstructural changes in the Al-2C system wa
s evaluated by means of thin foil method in the paper. The system with
KS 2.5 graphite mechanically alloyed for 60 min was shown to have the
structure with Al4C3 particles sized about 50 nm, resulting in optimu
m complex of mechanical properties expressed by quality factor QF = 0.
9. On the other hand, coarse grained structure with Al4C3 particles si
zed up to 2000 nm, resulted from Termax graphite with quality factor Q
F = 0.75.
