A 60 GHz microwave scattering system was used to search for kinetic Al
fven waves when toroidal Alfven eigenmodes were excited by the energet
ic hydrogen ions produced during ion cyclotron resonance heating in th
e tokamak fusion test reactor (TFTR). Scattering signals from the expe
cted location with the correct frequencies and wave wavelengths were o
bserved. These data are presented as the first evidence for the coupli
ng between toroidal Alfven eigenmodes and kinetic Alfven waves.
