Abstract
An AM1 study of two convergent Diels-Alder reactions shows that the fo rmal transfer of a substituent from a dienophile to a diene through a Diels-Alder-retro-Diels-Alder tandem reaction is thermodynamically and kinetically feasible irrespective of the electron-donating or -withdr awing character of the substituent.
