A Rhodococcus erythropolis strain isolated from soil utilizes 0.1-2% v
/v dibutyl phthalate and di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate as a sole carbon
source. DBP and DEHP metabolism is carried out by Rhodococcus erythrop
olis via the following steps: ster-->phthalate-->benzoate-->p-hydroxyb
enzoate--> protocatechuate-->3-ketoadipinate.
