Abstract
The Raman and reflection spectra have been measured on layer crystals PbI2 at room and liquid helium temperatures, respectively. The occurre nce of a laser induced 4H double right arrow 2H polytype transition in PbI2 has been observed via the low-frequency shift of the shear-defor mation mode in Raman spectrum and the appearance in reflection spectru m a new exciton transition.
