Using apical or axillary bud explants sampled on adult trees during do
rmancy in natural conditions, microcutting of Fraxinus excelsior L. wa
s successfully obtained. During the multiplication phase both a length
ening and a rejuvenation of sprouts were obtained. This phase was the
focus point from which several morphogenetic pathways could be initiat
ed, i.e. direct or delayed rooting of rejuvenated sprouts, resting per
iod mimicking a dormant but reversible state. Following subculture cyc
les, the multiplication coefficient increased or was maintained at its
previous level.
