The paper gives a detailed description of numerical and experimental a
nalysis of a cavitation free flow about a single blade placed in a wat
er tunnel as well as the comparison between both the methods. The flow
field upstream, around and downstream of the blade was measured by a
Laser-Doppler velocimeter, the pressure distribution on the blade surf
ace by using transducers, and the hydraulic torque by strain gauges mo
unted on the blade pivot. The problem was treated numerically by using
the finite element method. The calculation was performed by FIDAP com
puter code using a k-epsilon model. The agreement with measurements wa
s good.
