Strontium counts from proton microprobe analysis of the surfaces of se
ctions of otoliths from two species of deepwater rattails Tractyrincus
murrayi and Coryphaenoides mediterraneus were compared with delta(18)
O measurements from microsamples drilled from the otoliths. Strontium
counts from microprobe analysis had negative linear regressions when r
egressed on delta(18)O measurements. The slopes of the regression line
s were similar for the two species.
