GRAVITATIONAL-WAVE DETECTION BY LASER WITH 2N LOCKED MODES

A laser with two sets of N locked modes is proposed as an active gravi tational wave detector, whose sensitivity is limited by the spontaneou s noise. It is shown that the spontaneous linewidth of a mode of a las er with N locked modes is N-fold smaller than the one of a laser in th e free-running regime. As a result the sensitivity of such a device ma y be improved by the factor of root N.
