Autolysates of Lactobacillus gasseri were tested for their ability to
improve repair capacity in cultered human fibroblasts. In the course o
f this research on molecular mechanisms of hereditary DNA repair defic
iencies and presenility syndromes, a significant and reproducible effe
ct on repair capacity in these cells by an autolysate of the gram-posi
tive bacterium Lactobacillus gasseri was found.
