The L-absorption spectra of rare earth metal Tb and its compounds are
recorded by using a Laboratory XAFS system. The L(2)- and L(3)-absorpt
ion edges are located by using an analytical approach based on Fourier
transformation of EXAFS data, chemical shifts thus obtained are used
for estimating effective charge. This approach gives more accurate res
ults as it eliminates the uncertainty in the location of absorption ed
ges.
