The EXAFS spectra of hydrated transition metal complexes have been obt
ained for investigating the relation between the Debye-Waller factor,
sigma(2), in EXAFS and the ligand exchange reaction rate constant, k(1
), for the complexes in aqueous solution. The relation between sigma(2
) and log k(1) is studied by use of the Arrhenius theory. The introduc
tion of the anharmonic Morse function as the interaction potential is
found to lead to a simple expression connecting them.
