An overview for a dynamical SEXAFS analysis for several systems is pre
sented in terms of effective pair potentials. Model potentials of Made
lung type are found to describe well the adsorption of N, O, O-2 on Cu
and Ni metal surfaces. The potential parameters are discussed in rela
tionship to the electronic nature of the adsorbate substrate bond and
the occurrence of surface reconstructions. A comparison with S adsorpt
ion is given with data taken from the literature.
