The local structure in oxide superconductor La2-xSrxCuO4 was determine
d by the polarized XAFS study. The structure was found to be different
from the averaged structure determined by diffraction studies. Especi
ally, the average distance between copper and oxygen atoms, which incr
eases by 0.02 Angstrom at low temperatures, is discussed in terms of t
he broken inversion symmetry.
