Abstract
A description of the magnetic dichroism in X-ray absorption (MXD) base d on the spin polarized relativistic linear-muffin-tin-orbital (SPRLMT O) method of band structure calculation is proposed. The high efficien cy of the SPRLMTO-method allows its straightforward application to mag netic multilayer systems. This is demonstrated by calculations for the L(2,3)-edges of Co and Cu in Co5/Cu4, which are found to be in very s atisfying agreement with the experiment.
