A simple method for absorption coefficient measurement of liquids in t
he range 0.1-10(4) cm(-1) is demonstrated and a few spectroscopic appl
ications in this whole range are presented. The detection scheme uses
an open photoacoustic cell with piezoelectric transducer and laser exc
itation of a thin (0.5-700 mu m) sample layer.
