Pyostomatitis vegetans is a rare condition characterized by pustules t
hat affect the oral mucosa. It is consistently associated with inflamm
atory bowel disease and is usually resistant to treatment. We present
the case of a 65-year-old white man with pyostomatitis vegetans that w
as associated with ulcerative colitis and adenocarcinoma of the colon.
Fluocinonide gel resulted in a complete. but temporary clearance of t
he lesions. Complete remission was achieved immediately after a total
colectomy.
