A total of 144 hybrid pigs from a rotational cross with the Duroc, Yor
kshire, Landrace and Hampshire breeds with an average liveweight of 12
kg was used in a random block design for evaluating their performance
on reducing by 0, 15 and 26% the traditional concentrates with the ut
ilization of molasses B and home made protein molasses (HPM). Daily ga
in was not affected (493, 475 and 499 g), however, there was a decreas
e in the concentrate requirements/kg gain (3.34; 2.92 and 2.44). For t
his, the use of 0, 0.76 and 1.18 kg of molasses B and 0, 0.74 and 1.19
kg of final molasses was necessary for preparing the HPM in the 0, 15
and 26% of reduction, respectively. The use of molasses B and HPM for
reducing the cereal requirements up to 26% is suggested.
