SACCHARINA IN WHEAT OR MAIZE DIETS FOR BROILERS

720 broilers (ES(54) of both sexes from 7 to 49 of age were used to ev aluate the inclusion of Saccharina in wheat or maize cereal diets. The treatments were: 1) maize control diet, 2) 10% of Saccharina in the m aize diets, 3) wheat control diet and 4) 10% of Saccharina in wheat ce real diets. A completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 6 rep lications was used. Live weight gains of 1571, 1506, 1461 and 1462 g/b ird at 49 days, conventional feed consumptions of 3409, 2844, 3198 and 2706 g/bird and conventional feed conversions of 2.27, 1.96, 2.32 and 1.94 were obtained for the treatments described here, respectively. T he results justify the utilization of 10% of Saccharina in diets for b roilers regardless of the type of basic cereal used (maize or wheat).
