Abstract
The Thybas (Thyssen blast furnace automation system) models have been developed by Thyssen Stahl to assess the inner workings of blast furna ces. Sophisticated measurements taken at Schwelgern No. 1 blast furnac e have provided the basis for the design of objective mathematical mod els, which can then be used to improve operational conditions.
