SYNTHESIS OF NOVEL MIXED-METAL CLUSTERS OF MERCURY AND OSMIUM - CRYSTAL AND MOLECULAR-STRUCTURES OF CO)(4)((MU-HG)OS-3(CO)(10)(MU-ETA(2)-CH=CHPH))(2)] AND [(OS-3(CO)(10)(MU-ETA(2)-CH=CHPH))(2)(MU(4)-HG)]

Reaction of [Os3H2(CO)(10)] with Hg(C=CPh)(2) afforded the novel mixed -metal clusters CO)(4){(mu-Hg)Os-3(CO)(10)(mu-eta(2)-CH=CHPh)}(2)] 1 a nd [{Os-3(CO)(10)(mu-eta(2)-CH=CHPh)}(2)(mu(4)-Hg)] 2 in moderate yiel d. the crystal structures of which have been determined; 1 converts in to 2 via Hg-Os bond cleavage under ambient conditions.
