The absolute stereochemistry of the non-anomerically stabilised spiroa
cetal, (Z,Z)-2,8-dimethyl-1,7-dioxaspiro[5.5]undecane, 4 which is a si
gnificant component of the pheromonal gland secretion of the cucumber
fly (Bactrocera cucumis French) is shown to be (2S,6S,8S) by synthesis
of its enantiomer, and chiral gas chromatographic analyses.
