Ml. Chithambo et al., LOW-TEMPERATURE LUMINESCENCE OF TRANSITION METAL-DOPED BERYLS, Journal of African earth sciences, and the Middle East, 20(1), 1995, pp. 53-60
This paper reports the thermo- and radio-luminescence of transition me
tal-doped natural beryls. The luminescence was measured between 20 and
300K. Mn3+ and Cr3+ have been found to activate the thermoluminescenc
e with a high degree of efficiency. Comparison of beryl:Ni, beryl:Co a
nd aquamarine emission spectra with that of quartz suggests that in so
me respects the beryl behaves as though it is a quartz and this has be
en concluded to follow from similarities in the framework nature of bo
th lattices.
