The structure and the physical properties were investigated of the com
plexes of SO2 with the sec. amines dimethylamine (complex 1) and piper
idine (complex 2). According to the X-ray single crystal structure ana
lysis 1 and 2 were found to be stable charge-transfer complexes. This
could be confirmed by UV- and IR-spectroscopy. Complex 1, which is a y
ellowish liquid at room temperature, shows a remarkable high value of
the specific conductivity of 4,16 mS/cm (25 degrees C). The behaviour
of the specific conductivity of 1 in mixtures with several organic sol
vents is discussed in relation to the dynamic structural changes.
