Abstract
Thianthrene cation radical (Th-.+) reacts cleanly with alcohols and di ols in acetonitrile solution containing a hindered base. Products from Th-.+ are thianthrene and thianthrene 5-oxide. Other products vary wi th the structure of the alcohol and diol.
