When the Clinton Administration came to power in Washington a good two
years ago its declared objective was to satisfy the country's long-ne
glectedinner needs. Georg Schild, an expert on the USA at the Institut
e of Political Science of the University of Bonn, was involved over a
long period in a research project on this theme at Harvard University.
He examines the consequences of a reorientation which matches the moo
d in America over its involvement overseas, especially in Europe.
